Ubud is home to some of Bali’s best restaurants, but few capture the essence of Indonesian cuisine quite like Hujan Locale. During our recent trip to Bali, we dined there twice—first on our second night in Ubud and again on our wedding anniversary. Our experience was nothing short of exceptional, making this one of the most memorable dining experiences we’ve ever had.

Stepping into Hujan Locale, we were immediately struck by the amazing ambience, decor, and atmosphere. Hujan Locale takes Indonesian flavours to the next level, and every dish we tried was packed with depth and complexity.
On our first visit, we ordered:
Slow-Cooked Beef Rendang – Rich, tender, and bursting with perfectly balanced spices.
Slow-Cooked Betawi-Style Chicken – Comforting and full of deep, aromatic flavours.
On our second visit, we decided to explore more of the menu:
Slipper Lobster Dumplings – A delicate yet flavourful appetiser.
Beef Sate Padang – Beautifully grilled with a rich, spicy sauce.
Slow-Cooked Beef Rendang (yes, again!) – It was just too good not to have twice.
Tongseng Kambing – A lamb dish with a wonderful medley of spices and a slightly sweet, savoury sauce.
To top it all off, for our wedding anniversary, we received a surprise dessert: coconut ice cream, the best we’ve ever had! Creamy, rich, and bursting with fresh coconut flavour, it was the perfect way to end the night.
Beyond the food, their cocktails were incredible, featuring local ingredients and unique flavour combinations that complemented the meal perfectly.

They knew the menu inside out and provided thoughtful recommendations, making us feel like we were in expert hands. If (or rather, when) we return to Ubud, Hujan Locale will absolutely be on our itinerary again—and probably more than once! We wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone visiting Bali, especially those eager to explore Indonesian cuisine in a refined yet authentic way.
