Honeymoon & 5-Year Anniversary Trip to Singapore and Bali

Sometimes, the best trips are the ones you take when the timing finally feels right. After five years of marriage, we finally embarked on our long-overdue honeymoon—celebrating love, partnership, and adventure in two stunning destinations: Singapore and Bali. From the vibrant city life of Singapore to the serene beauty of Bali, this journey was packed with unforgettable experiences, delicious food, and unparalleled hospitality. Here’s a detailed look at our itinerary and highlights from the trip, which I hope might inspire others!

Days 1-4: Singapore – A City of Contrasts

We landed in Singapore early in the morning and checked into The Clan Hotel, where we were treated to breathtaking views of Chinatown from our 10th-floor room. Our first evening was spent catching up with my local Singaporean friend, Jayne, over dinner at Enjoy Eating House and Bar, followed by a scenic night walk around Marina Bay, where we caught the mesmerising Spectra Light Show.

Exploring Chinatown & Beyond

Singapore’s rich cultural heritage was on full display as we wandered through Chinatown, admiring its colourful murals and stopping by the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, which was alive with Chinese New Year festivities. Later, we indulged in crispy roti prata at The Roti Prata House and explored the lush Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Other highlights during our time in Singapore included:

  • A second visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens to catch the National Orchid Garden at opening to beat the crowds.

  • Exploring Katong, known for its Peranakan heritage and charming shopfronts.

  • Sipping on a matcha latte at Hvala and enjoying a Peranakan feast at True Blue Cuisine.

  • Taking in the dazzling Gardens by the Bay Light Show.

Singapore never disappoints, and this time was no exception. The mix of old-world charm, modern architecture, and diverse food scene made it the perfect start to our trip. I wrote a blog post about Singapore not long ago as well. Feel free to check it out for further inspiration if you are planning a trip to this wonderful city: Singapore Like a Local.

Located in the heart of Chinatown, The Clan Hotel was the ideal base for our Singapore adventure. The hotel’s blend of modern elegance and heritage-inspired décor made for an incredibly comfortable stay. The rooftop pool and breathtaking views of the city skyline were a definite highlight.

Days 5-9: Nusa Dua, Bali – Beachside Bliss

After a short flight, we arrived in Bali, checking into our dreamy villa at Amarterra Villas in Nusa Dua. These first couple of days in Bali were all about relaxation—long beach walks, sipping fresh coconuts, and unwinding in our private pool.

Memorable Experiences in Nusa Dua

  • Beachfront relaxation: Mornings spent walking along the pristine Nusa Dua beaches.

  • Incredible Balinese food: Highlights included a traditional Rijsttafel dinner at Raja Bali and a sunset meal at Kekeb Restaurant overlooking the ocean.

  • Spa indulgence: The Zahra Spa offered some of the best massages we’ve ever had.

  • Jamu-making class: Learning about Indonesia’s traditional herbal medicine was a unique and enriching experience.

Days 10-14: Ubud – Cultural & Culinary Delights

After five nights in Nusa Dua, we made our way to Komaneka at Bisma, a stunning retreat in Ubud surrounded by lush greenery. From temple visits to the best massages of our lives, Ubud was a highlight of our trip.

Exploring Ubud

  • Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary: A must-see, where playful monkeys roam ancient temple grounds.

  • Tea & matcha heaven: We became regulars at Chontea Ubud Tea & Matcha House.

  • Balinese spa experiences: The Ubud Traditional Spa provided the best massages we’ve ever had.

  • Our anniversary dinner at Hujan Locale: Hands down, the best meal of our trip (and possibly our lives).

  • Temple-hopping: Visiting Ulun Petanu Waterfall, Tirta Empul, and Goa Gajah was a spiritual and scenic experience.

Ubud’s magical atmosphere, incredible food, and warm hospitality made us fall in love with Bali even more.

Where to Stay in Ubud: Komaneka at Bisma

Nestled in the lush jungle, Komaneka at Bisma was an oasis of tranquillity. Our spacious suite had breathtaking views of the surrounding rice fields, and the infinity pool was perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special, and the Indonesian options at the hotel restaurant were authentic and delicious.

Days 15-17: Singapore – A Sweet Ending

Before flying home, we spent a couple more days in Singapore, staying in Little India. Our last meals included Veera Flavours, Mui Kee Orchard, and Sum Dim Sum, followed by desserts at Ms. Durian—a sweet way to wrap up our trip.

Where to Stay in Singapore: Holiday Inn Little India

For our final stay, Holiday Inn Little India provided a comfortable and convenient base. Located close to some of the best Indian food in Singapore, it was the perfect spot for indulging in our last few meals before heading home.

Final Thoughts

We were absolutely blown away by the hospitality of the Balinese people and the amazing Indonesian food—it has officially become our new favourite cuisine! Everywhere we went, people made sure to give us a special experience because of our honeymoon and anniversary, making us feel incredibly welcome.

This trip was everything we dreamed of and more, and we know for sure—we will be back!
